Homeowner Tips for Plumbing and Appliances
If you have recently asked yourself, “Why are my pipes corroding?” or “Why are my appliances breaking?”, there can be several reasons – and we have solutions for you!
Some of the culprits behind excess wear and tear on plumbing and appliances:
Acidic Water
You can test the pH of your water using a pH test strip from your local hardware store, if your water has a pH less than seven it will corrode your pipes and appliances.
Oxygen Level
Highly acidic water can also have high oxygen levels which can speed up corrosion.
Mineral Content
Buildup from “hard water” can cause excess wear and tear on your pipes which can contribute to corrosion. Minerals can also cause other problems involving low flow from scale/lime buildup, causing appliances excess wear and tear. This is why coffee makers suggest using purified, distilled, or bottled water to make coffee to avoid hard water buildup that causes the machine to overwork itself – plus it just improves the flavor. Bacteria
High levels of sulfate or iron bacteria in your water can also cause corrosion which can cause your pipes to fail prematurely.
Sand & Sediment
Sediment in your water can cause corrosion as well. Sand/sediment flowing through the pipes can sandblast its way through your pipes causing high amounts of wear and tear.
