The Air You Breathe

November 14, 2017 | Blog

It’s safe to assume the majority of people are aware of air pollution, allergies and the state of the air you’re breathing right now. The highest awareness of air quality takes place outdoors. But, what about your home?

The average person spends 65 to 70 percent of their time indoors. That means 65 to 70 percent of the air you breathe is coming from inside your home. This makes indoor air quality more important than ever! But, there are a few easy steps you can take to improve it.

First, open a window whenever you get the chance and let fresh air circulate into your home. Be careful with cleaning chemicals you use and store in the house. Try to limit pets in the home or keep them well-groomed, cleaning after them regularly.

These are a few small tasks that can help. But to really tackle the issue and ensure the best quality in your home, you’ll need to make some additions to your heating and cooling system.

The first thing we recommend is having a fresh air system installed. This will activate the blower fan on your existing unit to circulate the air while opening a damper and bringing in fresh air from outdoors. This removes harmful stagnate air from your home and exchanges it with fresh, clean air.

Our second recommendation is purchasing a high-efficiency filter system. This removes dust particles and allergens from the air. A lot of high-efficiency filters will even remove bacteria and mold spores from the air.

The last solution we recommend is an air duct purifier. This system produces hydrogen peroxide in the air, killing bacteria. While cleaning the air, it also takes care of bad smells. it recreates nature’s way of cleansing the air. So, it’ll actually produce fresh air without having to open any windows.

Each year, asthma, allergens and air quality continue to worsen. It’s not something we think about on a daily basis because we can’t see the air. But, this is a serious issue. And by following a few of these recommendations, it can add years to your life and your children’s.
